naraṁ caiva narottamam
devīṁ sarasvatīṁ vyāsaṁ

English Meaning:

Before reciting one should offer respectful obeisances unto the Personality of Godhead, Nārāyaṇa*, /Krishna/
unto Nara-nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi*, the supermost human being, /Arjuna's previous birth/
unto mother Sarasvatī, the goddess of learning, 
and unto Śrīla Vyāsadeva*, the author. /author of the Mahabharata, incarnation of Krishna empowered for literary activities/
